| Sporting an industrialized look, the new JX20 Pura has a titanium cover that helps it remain both good looking an tough at the same time. The tiny 1.6" long in-ear headset is so discreet looking that many people will think you are talking to yourself. Its simple lines angle towards the headset's embedded microphone, which doubles as the micro-USB charging port. A pair of raised finger guides on the top and bottom edge of the headset tell fingers where to press to activate the multi-function answer/end button. The button is activated by pinching the two raised finger guides toward each other, even though only one of them actually moves. I found the button action to be quite good, though I thought they were a bit skinny. A pair of buttons on the rear edge of the JX20 Pura handle volume control. The buttons are very small, and I had some difficulty using them at times. I preferred the larger single rocker button of the JX10 by far, just as I prefer its larger pinch buttons.
An ultra small LED is located on the matte black underbelly of the headset. It is used to indicate power status and the initiation of the pairing mode. Things get a little more interesting when we get to the JX20's earpiece. Jabra has turned the earpiece into a mechanical on/off switch that is activated by turing the base of the earpiece 90 degrees. Everybody here at MobileBurn thought this to be a brilliant design. Instead of needing to hold down of the headset's multifunction button to power it on or off, a simple twist will provide instant power gratification.
The fit of the JX20 Pura was a bit awkward for me. It feels off balance, and the two supplied rubber earpiece covers in the sales package did not help matters. The included ear hooks are definitely needed for the JX20 to feel stable and secure. At first I wanted to blame the headset's increased weight (10.8g) and length (40mm) versus the JX10's 9.8g/39mm but it really just comes down to weight distribution (towards the tip) and the ear piece not providing a tight and secure fit. The JX20 Pura is rated for 6 hours talk time or up to 8.25 days of standby, which we found to be reasonably accurate. Our version of the JX20 Pura titanium headset came with a very cool and sleek desktop stand with an LED battery indicator, 2 ear hooks, 1 extra earpiece cover, a micro-USB AC power charger, and a manual. |
